Product Testing: Coloplast Brava Lubricating Deodorant Drops
Coloplast Brava Lubricating Deodorant Drops Help Stop Pancaking:
Fortunately, there are some solid solutions to pancaking. Coloplast has a product that is specifically designed for pancaking. The product is called, Brava Liquid Lubricating Deodorant Drops and it is a clear liquid product that is added to the ostomy pouch before you put your pouch on. The drops lubricate the inside of the ostomy pouch, this helps the output not to stick and also helps avoid vacuums forming. The Brava drops also help to neutralize odor. I asked my friend Beth to try out the Brava Lubricating Deodorant drops and to let us know how she liked them and how well she thought they work to help solve the problem she was having with pancaking. Beth is 29 and she had her ostomy surgery 6 years ago after living with Crohn's Disease since she was 9 years old. Beth currently lives in Illinois with her husband and two dogs. I want to take a second to thank Beth for trying out the Brava drops, so thanks Beth!
This is what Beth had to say about her experience with Coloplast’s Brava Lubricating deodorant:
“Okay, first, pancaking is awful. It always happens at the worst times and it makes emptying my pouch so much harder. Anything that makes pouch changes messier and more time consuming is real bad. I had heard of the Brava drops but I had never tried them. When I got the little sachets in the mail, I liked how it was a small package cause I could throw that in my bag easy. Of course, the full bottle is a better deal, price wise. I changed my pouch and took a clean pouch, poured the Brava drops inside and slushed it all around the inside of the bag. First thing, this stuff smells nice. It is like a soapy smell but not super strong. It smells clean. I attached my pouch and that was that. Once my pouch clicked on, I really couldn’t smell the drops, which is good. I have a colostomy so my output is well formed, so yeah, pancaking happens a lot and even when it doesn’t totally pancake it is like sticky and hard to empty. When it was time to change my pouch, I imminently noticed that my output was totally at the bottom of the bag. I was able to go a bit longer than normal before I had to empty because it wasn’t all bunched up at the top. That is great, I was really surprised, I have used other brands but this already seemed better. I took off my pouch and I could tell right off that the odor was better, it still wasn’t perfect but it was better and the soapy smell wasn’t overpowering or weird at all. The output was totally at the bottom! Emptying was so much easier! It really did empty better, it was easier to wipe out the opening and it seemed just a lot cleaner. I checked my filter out and it was actually still good to go! I dumped another sachet inside the pouch and finished up.”
After using the Coloplast Brava Lubricating Drops for a week, Beth had these final thoughts on the product:
“I am now a huge fan. I did not have any pancaking, even at night, even when I had to drive a longer distance and my seat belt went across my pouch. These are really awesome drops. I don’t think you have to use as much as the directions say. I played with the amounts and by the end of the week I was using probably half of what was suggested. The odor neutralizing was great but I would buy these for the lubricating alone. I can’t get over how much faster the Brava drops has made pouch changes for me. Faster and easier to clean. I am adding this to my daily routine. The product is totally worth the money and it works better than I thought it would.”
