What is Silvasorb Silver Antimicrobial Wound Gel?
What is Medline Silvasorb Hydrogel?
Silvasorb is a controlled-release antimicrobial silver hydrogel. What that means is that Silvasorb is a gel that spreads easily and continuously releases silver. Depending on the wound, Silvasorb will work for three days before bandages need to be replaced. The dressing should not remain in place for longer than 3 days. Always consult your doctor when it comes to the frequency of your bandage changes. Silvasorb works by a sustained release of silver which helps to heal chronic wounds and helps to reduce infection. When Silvasorb gel is used properly it helps to reduce the amount of infectious bacteria that is present in and immediately around the wound. The Silvasorb gel also helps to keep the wound moist which promotes an optimal wound healing environment. Silvasorb is a great choice for healing wounds because it is biocompatible, non-irritating, and it will not harm the tender and delicate new tissue, called "granulation tissue". A wound gel needs to be gentle and effective at the same time, healing your present wound while causing a new one to form is obviously not helpful.
Is Silvasorb Hydrogel Effective in Wound Care?
The silver in Silvasorb is released in small amounts over time, the extremely small amounts of continuously releasing silver are effective and fast acting against a broad spectrum of microorganisms. Basically, Silvasorb helps to reduce the amount of infectious bacteria present in a wound. Silvasorb also maintains the proper moisture level so that wounds have every opportunity to heal. For wounds to heal properly, they need proper fluid management, infection needs to be controlled and avoided, and this must be accomplished without destroying the new and healing tissue. Silvasorb does all of these things. As effective as Silvasorb Hydrogel Silver Antimicrobial Wound Gel is, it is not intended for every wound. Consult your doctor to determine if Silvasorb can help your wound heal properly.
